First Love Reunion

The wounds of a decade’s past get mistaken for other scars now
faded much like the memories of you back then.
I forgive us
And when I see you, I don’t recognize you in the way I once did
Like driving by a structure that was once called home
the paint has chipped away
And wrinkles have taken the place where my lips used to touch
the day your mom stopped breathing
And how have the years gone by without me thinking about you every second
like I used to
when I left the window open
or tip-toed into your house in the twilight of summer?
And you look nothing and everything like you did
when my secrets were yours
and your secrets were mine.
I forgive us.

I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, growing up in a warehouse in Anchorage's industrial district. Now I live in airports and stand in front of cameras.
